I love working for iCan Shine because… I remember as a kid I used to spend day-in and day-out on my bike, riding around my neighborhood and that love for cycling has stayed with me.  I think that everyone should feel the wind in their hair and the joy bike riding brings.  I want to make a difference in people’s lives and helping these children learn how to ride and seeing the joy in their faces is something that will forever stay with me.

Riders will have the chance to create community and make new friends at the camp, while also improving their health and balance by getting active! I love working for iCan Shine because… it gives me the opportunity to use my passion of teaching water safety skills and swimming to a variety of individuals whom I’ve experienced, through working with a previous camp, become like family to me. The passion of the campers and their caregivers are amazing. I love to see the participants smile and even more, the progress that they have made during the week. My favorite day is Awards Day. The campers are so excited to receive medals, hug their Instructors and favorite volunteers, take pictures, and smile from ear to ear, in excitement of their accomplishments.

I love working for iCan Shine because…. I’ve lived an active lifestyle for the majority of my life, and it’s such a dream come true to be able to be part of an organization where I am not only able to promote physical fitness, but am able to instill confidence and make an everlasting impact on so many individuals lives including my own. The riders epitomize how hard work, patience and determination pay off and allow you to persevere despite obstacles that may stand in your way; all with a big smile! Being able to see the riders faces light up while they are riding independently and witnessing the transformation in all of the participants by the end of ONE week is simply amazing and the feeling is indescribable. Given the opportunity to travel across the United States/Canada to promote a healthy lifestyle and lifelong independence while bringing communities and families together; hard to outshine that!

I love working for iCan Shine because… I love teaching. I have been a school teacher and swimming instructor for most of my life. It is important to me for all children to be comfortable and safe in and around water. The iCan Shine organization allows me to travel and teach students all over the United States and Canada. It is amazing what they learn is just 5 days, and rewarding to know that these skills stay with them and hopefully keep them safe. I enjoy swimming and being in the water, and iCan Shine gives me the opportunity to teach others to use the water for both fun and exercise.
