iCan Swim - Waukegan, IL

Teaching people with disabilities to swim is not only a good idea, it’s essential. Creating an effective swimming program for people with disabilities takes a patient understanding of each swimmer as well as a well-thought-out plan for how the lessons can be adapted to each child. This is the foundation of our iCan Swim program.

"I call all the iCanShine staff miracle workers. My 11 year old daughter who has autism participated as a camper and I participated as a volunteer. Additionally, I am a physical therapist.The children participating as campers had a variety of developmental challenges including cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. I never expected that most of them would achieve independent cycling outside within 5 days. The progression of skills with the roller wheels and tandem cycling is absolute genius. My daughter now can ride with myself and her brothers. We have even ridden on the carriage paths in our home state National Park - Acadia. Being able to ride a bike has given her confidence and pride. Thank you SO much!"
