iCan Swim - Chillicothe, OH

Teaching people with disabilities to swim is not only a good idea, it’s essential. Creating an effective swimming program for people with disabilities takes a patient understanding of each swimmer as well as a well-thought-out plan for how the lessons can be adapted to each child. This is the foundation of our iCan Swim program.

"My dreams of becoming an instructor for children with special needs not only came true with the program, but were exceeded beyond my hopes. Before the program, I didn't have much experience with children and zero experience with children with special needs. My life changed in so many amazing ways after the week of camp. Being around these children woke up something inside me that I never knew existed. I've never been looked through to my soul with such a trust, purity, and genuine excitement in my life, and this is how these kids looked at me. Becoming an adaptive aquatics instructor has been a goal of mine since I began teaching swim lessons, but I had no idea that it would be the joy of my life and make me love my job even more than I already do. I tell everyone I know now, that if they have the opportunity to volunteer or work with these special and amazing children or is well worth the time and effort. For I have learned much more from these kids than I ever thought possible and the joy just keeps overflowing each time I get the chance to work with these young people. Thank you so so very much for allowing me to be involved in the lives of such sweet, genuine, and courageous children!"
