“My son, age 12, has been diagnosed with dyspraxia – a developmental coordination disorder. He has had to work hard on many things in life and had been working to learn to ride a bike for many years with no success. Honestly when his physical therapist recommended this program I did not have high hopes. He began his week a little unsure, the camp was a bit of a drive from our home and he wasn’t sure it was worth it to commit to driving 30 to 40 minutes each way to bike camp. The volunteers working with him were outstanding and on day one he got wrapped up in conversation lost track of what he was doing. What he was learning to do though was ride a bike. On day three he “launched” and was riding a bicycle independently – it was amazing!
The next morning he shared with me that “launch day” was one of the best days of his life, second only to the day he got his glasses. I believe having this skill has changed the trajectory of his life, he is confident now that he can accomplish things and has a new sense of independence. I am forever grateful.”
